Call for Views: SONI Landowner Charter

Closed31 Jan, 2024, 9:00am - 29 Mar, 2024, 5:00pm

Primary tabs

SONI is calling for views on our existing Landowner Charter as we work to implement Northern Ireland’s Energy Strategy and climate change legislation which sets a target of 80% of our electricity coming from renewable sources by 2030. We want to further understand the current best practice surrounding landowner engagement, including to what degree landowner engagement presents barriers to the building of electricity network infrastructure.

SONI invites responses to the following questions:

  • What are your experiences, if applicable, of SONI’s current landowner engagement?
  • What do you like about SONI’s current Landowner Charter? What could be improved?
  • Should anything else be included, or excluded, from SONI’s Landowner Charter and why?
  • What issues need to be considered when engaging with landowners and rural stakeholders?
  • How do you think SONI’s engagement for consensual agreement with landowners could be improved?
  • How do we balance the need for meaningful engagement with landowners with the timebound energy targets set by the Climate Change (Northern Ireland) Act?
  • Are you aware of any other best practice models in landowner engagement from elsewhere?
  • Are there any other policy measures that could promote more consensual agreement for land access?

We would like to thank all stakeholders and interested parties who respond to the Landowner Charter review. Your feedback is important to us.

Responses can also be emailed to info@soni.ltd.uk or via post to Landowner Charter, SONI Ltd, 12 Manse Road, Belfast, BT6 9RT.

The consultation is open from 9 February 2024 and closes on 29 March 2024, 17:00.
