SONI is planning to bring forward the Tamnamore – Drumnakelly Project – a proposed circuit upgrade between Tamnamore (near Dungannon) and Drumnakelly (near Portadown) substations. The existing 110 kV network between Tamnamore and Drumnakelly is heavily congested which means all of the electricity generated is not able to be transferred to where it is needed on the grid. Therefore, there is a need to upgrade the current infrastructure to increase capacity.
The project includes uprating the existing circuit between Tamnamore and Drumnakelly and installing a new cable section to allow for the future removal of the existing overhead line through Killyman Village. The project will increase the capacity and efficiency of the grid and remove constraints in the west of Northern Ireland.
The Tamnamore – Drumnakelly Project will:
Increase the amount of renewable energy on the network
Facilitate the future removal of the existing overhead line through Killyman Village
Improve the capacity of the existing circuit and remove costly constraints
Strengthen the local transmission network and ensure consistent security of supply
At this stage of consultation, we are seeking feedback from members of the public, including local residents, elected representatives and key stakeholders to help shape the final proposal i.e. the route of the underground cable and details on the technology to be used for the project. We know that no one knows an area better than those who live and work in it, which is why this feedback is so valuable.
There are many ways to get involved and provide feedback. These include:
Making on online submission
Provide written feedback by registering for a free account on this platform and make a submissionusing the link opposite. All submissions will be published for sharing ideas and information on this consultation.
